Instructions

Just type your sentence and go! Enter any English sentence and The Sentence Diagram Machine will do its best to diagram it. You can remove tags from the diagram by clicking on them if you want to simplify things. I will also be adding a Simple Mode soon that will use fewer labels and the common names for parts of speech.

Background

The Sentence Diagram Machine is powered by a neural network. Neural networks are programs designed to imitate the brain. They are trained on real-world data, and can outperform traditional software in some areas, like image recognition and text processing.

This neural net, the Charniak-Johnson parser, was trained on Wall Street Journal articles. It's accuracy is a little over 91%, depending on the style of the sentence - clearly written sentences are easier to process. Annotations are in Penn Treebank style.
